Viniou Reviews

Domaine G. Roumier’s Clos de la Bussière Premier Cru 2022 is a celebrated red Burgundy from one of the region’s most revered producers. The Clos de la Bussière is a distinguished monopole vineyard located in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis. This wine is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, renowned for imparting finesse, complexity, and elegance to Burgundy reds. The 2022 vintage was marked by a warm growing season, yielding fruit with ripe concentration yet preserved by the viticultural expertise at Roumier, ensuring vivacious acidity and pure aromatics. Fermentation typically takes place in stainless steel, followed by ageing in French oak barrels, a portion of which is new—lending subtle spice, structure, and polish while remaining faithful to the vineyard’s character.

The wine hails from Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, an area steeped in history with a patchwork of revered vineyards producing some of the world’s most sought-after Pinot Noir. The region’s limestone-rich soils bestow minerality and drive to the wines, while the semi-continental climate encourages gradual ripening, preserving freshness and aromatic detail. Morey-Saint-Denis, in particular, balances the power of neighbouring Gevrey-Chambertin with the perfume and silkiness associated with Chambolle-Musigny, making Clos de la Bussière an exquisite expression of its terroir.

This elegant and structured Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck breast with cherries, veal blanquette, or a classic coq au vin. Its earthy savour and fine tannins also complement Burgundy specialities like oeufs en meurette or wild mushroom fricassée. For cheese, opt for aged Comté or Brie de Meaux for a harmonious match.

For optimal enjoyment, serve Clos de la Bussière Premier Cru 2022 at 15-16°C. Decanting for up to an hour can help reveal its aromatic intricacy, especially in its youth, but this fine Burgundy will blossom further with a few years of cellar ageing.
