Domaine Roulot’s 2018 Cuvée Bouchères is a striking expression of Meursault Premier Cru, crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. This white Burgundy reflects the particular finesse and elegance associated with Roulot, whose meticulous vineyard practices and precise vinification yield wines of great clarity and depth. The Bouchères vineyard is situated on a gentle southeast-facing slope, benefitting from optimal sun exposure and excellent drainage thanks to its marly-limestone soils. The 2018 vintage brought generous ripeness due to a warm growing season, balanced here by keen acidity and a minerally driven palate. The wine is matured in oak barrels, a majority of which are older, allowing subtle oak influence without overpowering the purity of fruit and terroir. Expect aromas of citrus blossom, white peach, almonds and a trademark saline note, followed by a palate that is both textural and vibrant, with tension and length.
The broader Burgundy region, and particularly Meursault, is celebrated for producing some of the world’s finest Chardonnay. The mosaic of limestone and marl soils, combined with a temperate continental climate, allows each vineyard site to express a unique identity. Human history in these vineyards stretches back to the Middle Ages, with the Premier Cru designation reserved for especially prized parcels like Bouchères. The region’s reputation is built on the interplay between the cool evenings, which sustain freshness, and warm days, which encourage expressive flavours in the grapes.
For food pairings, this wine shines alongside classic Burgundian dishes such as poulet de Bresse à la crème or scallops lightly seared with a beurre blanc. It also partners beautifully with roast chicken, fish in a delicate sauce, or fresh goat’s cheese, where the wine’s tension and subtle oak complement the richness of the dishes without overwhelming them.
To enjoy this Meursault Premier Cru at its best, serve it cool but not too cold, ideally between 11-13°C. Decanting for 30 minutes will allow its aromas to fully develop, revealing the layers and minerality that are hallmarks of Roulot’s exceptional style.
