Viniou Reviews

Domaine Georges Roumier’s Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru ‘Cuvée La Bussière’ 2015 is an exceptional expression of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Made exclusively from Pinot Noir, this wine emanates the typicity of its prestigious terroir, particularly from the celebrated Premier Cru vineyard of La Bussière. The 2015 vintage is widely regarded as outstanding across Burgundy, marked by perfect ripening conditions. In the glass, Roumier’s careful vinification practices result in a wine of luminous ruby colour, with an intricate nose of red cherry, blackberry, forest floor and subtle notes of truffle and spice, supported by an elegantly integrated oak influence and velvety tannins.

Morey-Saint-Denis lies between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and enjoys a privileged position in the Côte de Nuits, northern Burgundy. The region benefits from a continental climate with warm summers and cool nights, ideal for slow, aromatic development of Pinot Noir. The soils here are a complex mixture of limestone and marl, with excellent drainage, encouraging deep-rooting and the distinctive minerality so prized in Burgundy reds. Historically, Morey-Saint-Denis is renowned for its understated power and refinement, often described as marrying the intensity of its southern neighbour with the elegance of its northern counterpart.

With its depth and complexity, this Premier Cru pairs particularly well with roasted duck breast, game bird (such as partridge or pigeon), or a classic Burgundy dish like coq au vin. Wild mushroom risotto or beef bourguignon would also showcase the wine’s silky tannins and layered fruit, while traditional cheeses like Epoisses or Comté make for a satisfying, local-accented end to the meal.

For optimal enjoyment, decant this wine for about an hour to open up its bouquet and fine structure. Serve at 15-16°C to balance freshness and aromatic expression. This 2015 Premier Cru is accessible now but will gracefully evolve for another decade in a proper cellar.
