Domaine Heresztyn-Mazziniâs Gevrey-Chambertin âLes Jouises Vieilles Vignesâ 2022 is an exceptional Burgundy red wine, crafted from old Pinot Noir vines grown in one of the CĂŽte de Nuitsâ most esteemed appellations. âVieilles Vignesâ â meaning old vines â typically contributes additional concentration and depth to the wine. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was marked by warm weather, resulting in ripe fruit and supple tannins, but retained enough cool nights to preserve vibrancy and finesse. Vinification at Heresztyn-Mazzini is meticulous, often involving partial whole-bunch fermentation, which lends aromatic complexity and structure to the resulting wine. Expect an elegant bouquet of black cherry, wild raspberry, violet, and a subtle undertone of earthy spice, bramble, and forest floor. On the palate, this cuvĂ©e combines lithe tannins, well-balanced acidity, and a long, silky finish, characteristic of the best Gevrey-Chambertin expressions.
The CĂŽte de Nuits is the northern half of Burgundyâs CĂŽte dâOr, famed for producing some of the worldâs greatest Pinot Noir. Here, the relatively cool continental climate contributes to the grapeâs slow, even maturation, delivering wines of depth and purity. Soils are predominantly limestone and clay, imparting a distinct mineral backbone and subtlety. Gevrey-Chambertin itself is a historic commune, whose wines have been celebrated for their power and ageing potential since at least the Middle Ages. The âLes Jouisesâ plotâs old vines add complexity and a sense of place, reflecting the ancient terroirâs unique stamp.
This refined Gevrey-Chambertin pairs beautifully with classic Burgundian cuisine such as coq au vin, beef bourguignon, or roast duck with cherries. The wineâs structure and brightness also complement game bird, lamb rack with herbes de Provence, and earthy mushroom-based dishes. For cheese, opt for semi-soft styles like Ăpoisses or ComtĂ©.
Serve this cuvée lightly chilled, at around 16-18°C, ideally after being decanted for 30 minutes to reveal its full aromatic range. Enjoy now for its primary fruit and freshness, or cellar for up to a decade for greater complexity and tertiary notes.
