Château Des Jacques Morgon 2021 is a beautiful expression of one of Beaujolais’ most renowned crus. Crafted exclusively from the Gamay grape, this red wine reveals vivid energy and ripe fruit character from the 2021 vintage, known for producing precise, elegant wines. Morgon’s distinctive terroir, situated on slopes around the village of Villié-Morgon, is defined by its weathered schist and volcanic soils, imparting mineral depth and structure to the wines. The winemaking at Château Des Jacques embraces a Burgundian approach, with careful destemming, traditional fermentation, and maturation in oak barrels, resulting in a wine that balances exuberant fruit with refined tannins and savoury complexity.
Beaujolais as a region sits in the heart of France between Burgundy and Lyon. The climate here is semi-continental, enjoying plenty of warm, sunny days and cool nights, which facilitate excellent ripening while retaining freshness. Morgon itself is celebrated for producing some of the most age-worthy and structured wines in Beaujolais, often described as "the most Burgundian of Beaujolais". The region boasts a rich winegrowing history dating back centuries, and its hillsides of granite and schist provide a unique character to the Gamay grape that sets it apart from the fruitier, lighter styles associated with more basic Beaujolais.
This Morgon pairs beautifully with local charcuterie such as saucisson brioché or terrines, but also shines with roast duck, grilled pork, or mushroom risotto. Its depth and balance also complement heartier fare, like beef bourguignon or Toulouse sausages with lentils, and it can surprise alongside mature cheeses such as Saint-Marcellin or Comté.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at 15-16°C, ideally after a short decanting to allow its aromatics to open. Morgon 2021 can be enjoyed now for its fresh fruit and floral aromatics, but it will also reward a few years’ cellaring, gaining complexity and subtle earthy notes with time.
