Viniou Reviews

Château Treilles 2018, hailing from the Cahors appellation in the South-West region of France, is a distinguished red wine. This region, particularly the piedmont of the Massif Central, is celebrated for its robust and characterful wines, most notably those made from the Malbec grape, often referred to as "Cot" locally. The 2018 vintage saw a beneficial climate, with a warm growing season and enough rainfall to ensure healthy vine development, leading to concentrated and well-structured wines. The terroir of Cahors is marked by its distinct limestone soils mixed with clay, which lend the wines their noted depth and tannic backbone.

Cahors has a rich history dating back to the Roman era, and over the centuries, it has been recognised for producing deeply coloured, tannin-rich wines, often capable of ageing gracefully. The region's moderate maritime climate, tempered by the presence of the Lot River, contributes to the balance of fruit and acidity, making wines from here both bold and vibrant.

For pairing, the Château Treilles 2018 is an excellent companion to hearty dishes. Traditional pairings would include regional fare such as cassoulet or duck confit, both of which complement the wine's robust tannins and rich flavours. Additionally, roasted lamb or beef dishes, perhaps braised with herbs, would highlight the wine's structured essence and dark fruit profile.

When it comes to enjoying this wine, serving it at a temperature of 16-18°C will allow its full bouquet to unfold. Decanting it for at least an hour before serving can also enhance its aromatic profile, allowing the complex layers to emerge, making the tasting experience all the more pleasurable.
