White Grapes

Irsai Olivér is a distinctive white grape variety originating from Hungary, celebrated for its intensely aromatic profile. The nose is typically defined by captivating notes of muscat grapes, elderflower, basil, and freshly-cut citrus, often underscored by nuances of ripe pear and tropical fruit. On the palate, the wines are light to medium-bodied with refreshing acidity, delivering a vibrant, fruit-driven character and a clean, zesty finish.

The primary home of Irsai Olivér is Hungary, particularly in the Kunság region of the Great Plain, as well as Etyek–Buda and Tokaj. It is also cultivated in neighbouring countries such as Slovakia and the Czech Republic, where it thrives in cooler continental climates.

Irsai Olivér is typically crafted as a youthful, unoaked wine, designed to capture the fresh and lively spirit of the variety. Dry and off-dry expressions are common, and the grape’s perfumed aroma is seldom masked by oak ageing. Limited sparkling and semi-sweet styles are also produced, highlighting its aromatic finesse.

These wines pair excellently with aromatic Asian dishes, light salads, white fish, or goat’s cheese. Irsai Olivér’s expressive bouquet and crisp acidity also provide a delightful aperitif, perfect for warm afternoons.
