Red Grape Variety

Alibernet is a distinctive red grape variety, a hybrid of Alicante Bouschet and Cabernet Sauvignon, predominantly cultivated in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine. This varietal is renowned for producing wines of deep, almost inky colour, and a compelling, robust aromatic and flavour profile. On the nose, Alibernet typically offers intense notes of blackberries, blackcurrant, dark cherries, and subtle undertones of green pepper, complemented by nuances of spice and earthy minerality. The palate is marked by full-bodied structure, firm tannins, and refreshing acidity, with flavours echoing dark fruits, spices, and a hint of cocoa or leather on the finish.

Alibernet wines are typically crafted as dry reds, though they can also present as oak-aged or in rare cases, as dessert wines. In all its styles, Alibernet shows excellent ageing potential, allowing its complex layers to evolve beautifully over time. Due to its structure and depth, Alibernet pairs admirably with hearty dishes, such as grilled steak, lamb, game meats, or mature hard cheeses, and also complements rich, savoury stews or dishes with robust spices.
