White Grapes

Kakhet is a rare indigenous grape variety primarily cultivated in Georgia, especially within the historic Kakheti wine region that lends the grape its name. Known for its versatility, Kakhet yields expressive white wines marked by a luminous straw-yellow hue. On the nose, these wines deliver inviting aromas of ripe pear, green apple, and subtle white floral notes, often layered with hints of honey and dried herbs. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, offering balanced acidity alongside elegant flavours of stone fruit, citrus zest, and occasional touches of almond or mineral undertones, particularly in traditional qvevri-aged examples.

Kakhet wines are crafted in both modern stainless-steel and traditional Georgian qvevri styles. Stainless-steel vinification preserves crisp fruit and floral character, resulting in bright, versatile wines. Conversely, qvevri fermentation imparts richer texture and complex earthy nuances, sometimes accentuated by a gentle tannic grip.

These wines pair beautifully with a diverse range of dishes. Ideal companions include grilled river fish, herb-rich salads, mildly spiced poultry, and Georgian favourites like khachapuri or vegetable pkhali. Kakhet wines also complement Mediterranean-inspired seafood or soft cheeses, making them an excellent choice for sophisticated food pairings.
