Kangun is a distinctive white grape variety predominantly cultivated in Armenia, especially in the Ararat Valley, with additional plantings found in neighbouring regions. On the nose, Kangun displays a fresh and appealing aromatic profile, characterised by notes of citrus blossom, pear, green apple, and subtle hints of white peach. The palate is typically crisp, medium-bodied, and well-balanced, offering vibrant acidity and flavours of ripe orchard fruits, accompanied by a delicate minerality and gentle floral undertones.
Winemakers most commonly vinify Kangun as a dry white wine, though it also lends itself well to blends and occasionally to slightly sweet or sparkling styles. These wines are appreciated for their clarity, elegant expression, and refreshing finish. Thanks to its versatility and structure, Kangun-based wines pair excellently with a wide array of dishes. Classic pairings include grilled or steamed fish, seafood, poultry, and fresh Mediterranean salads. Soft cheeses, light appetisers, and dishes featuring herbs also complement its aromatic character. When served slightly chilled, Kangun is an ideal choice both as an elegant aperitif and as a fine accompaniment to refined cuisine.
