The grape variety Heida (Païen)

Heida, also known as Païen in the Valais region of Switzerland, is a distinctive white grape variety renowned for producing wines of pronounced character and finesse. On the nose, Heida reveals a complex aromatic profile, offering lively notes of citrus fruit, green apple, and pear, complemented by hints of white blossom, stone fruit, and subtle mineral undertones. The palate is typically dry, fresh, and well-structured, with vibrant acidity balancing the full body and contributing to a refined, lingering finish.

Heida is primarily cultivated in the high-altitude vineyards of Valais, particularly in the Visperterminen region, which boasts some of Europe's highest vines. Here, the cool mountain climate and unique terroir allow the grape to express both freshness and aromatic intensity.

Wines made from Heida are generally vinified as crisp, unoaked whites, though some styles may undergo brief maturation on lees to enhance texture. These wines are excellent as aperitifs and are celebrated for their ageing potential, developing additional complexity over time.
