Pinot Beurot, more widely recognised as Pinot Gris in other winegrowing regions, is a white grape variety that offers wines of striking complexity and individuality. Aromatically, Pinot Beurot displays notes of ripe orchard fruits such as pear and apple, often complemented by subtle hints of peach, honey, and sometimes gentle spice or floral nuances. On the palate, these wines tend to exhibit a generous mouthfeel, with moderate to full body, and often a fine balance between richness and refreshing acidity.
This varietal finds its primary home in Burgundy, particularly in the Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise, where it is vinified both as a single varietal and occasionally blended. Pinot Beurot is also cultivated in parts of the Loire Valley and has a presence in Alsace, though under the Pinot Gris designation.
Typical styles range from dry, textured wines to more opulent and lightly off-dry expressions, depending on vintage conditions and winemaking approach. These wines pair beautifully with a broad array of dishes, notably roast pork, poultry in cream sauces, mild curries, mushroom risotto, and soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert, making Pinot Beurot a versatile choice at the table.
