Gringet is a rare, indigenous white grape variety primarily cultivated in the Savoie region of France, specifically within the tiny enclave of Ayze. This distinctive variety is renowned for producing wines of remarkable aromatic finesse, typically expressing notes of white flowers, green apple, pear and subtle citrus, underscored by hints of alpine herbs and a delicate minerality. On the palate, Gringet offers fresh acidity and a light-to-medium body, giving the wine a crisp, lively character and an elegant texture.
While best known for its use in traditional method sparkling wines—characterised by fine, persistent bubbles and a precise, refreshing finish—Gringet is also vinified as a still wine, where its purity and complexity become more pronounced. These wines display a harmonious balance between fruit, floral and mineral elements, making them well-suited for both youthful enjoyment and short-term ageing.
Food pairings with Gringet-based wines are exceptionally versatile. They excel alongside fresh seafood, such as oysters and shellfish, delicate freshwater fish, and Alpine cheeses like Tomme de Savoie. Gringet also partners beautifully with subtly flavoured dishes, including vegetable terrines, spring salads or light poultry preparations, allowing its elegant nuances to shine.
