Red Grape Variety

Mujuretuli is an indigenous Georgian red grape variety valued for its unique character and versatility. This grape is predominantly cultivated in the Kartli region of central Georgia, particularly surrounding the Shida Kartli area, where it thrives in the moderate continental climate and well-drained soils. Mujuretuli yields wines with a vibrant ruby hue, offering an aromatic profile marked by notes of ripe cherries, red berries, plums, and a distinct spicy undertone. On the palate, the wines are medium-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a lively acidity, culminating in a balanced and gently persistent finish. Mujuretuli is often blended with Saperavi to create the well-regarded "Khvanchkara" semi-sweet red wine, renowned for its harmonious combination of sweetness and freshness. However, varietal expressions of Mujuretuli are also gaining attention, typically vinified as dry or off-dry wines. These wines pair exceptionally well with traditional Georgian cuisine, such as khinkali (spiced dumplings), roasted meats, hard cheeses, and mildly spiced stews. Their fresh fruit character and gentle structure also complement modern European dishes like grilled duck, lamb kebabs, or mushroom risotto.
