Obeidi is an indigenous white grape variety predominantly cultivated in Lebanon, particularly within the Bekaa Valley, where it forms a cornerstone of local viticulture. The grape is celebrated for its restrained yet nuanced aromatic profile, offering subtle notes of stone fruits such as peach and apricot, complemented by hints of white flowers, citrus zest, and occasionally a delicate touch of honey. On the palate, Obeidi is known for its fresh acidity, medium body, and a lingering mineral finish, making it exceptionally refreshing.
Wines crafted from Obeidi are most often produced as single-varietal still wines or in blends, especially with other Mediterranean varietals. The typical style is unoaked, emphasising elegance and purity of fruit, although some producers experiment with limited oak contact for added complexity. Obeidi wines are usually dry, capturing the terroir-driven character of Lebanon’s high-altitude vineyards.
The bright acidity and clean fruit profile of Obeidi make it versatile for food pairings. It complements seafood dishes, grilled white fish, Mediterranean salads, and fresh goat cheeses. Its subtle herbal notes also harmonise beautifully with mezze platters, herbed chicken, or lightly spiced Lebanese cuisine.
