Heida, also known as Savagnin Blanc, is a distinguished white grape variety revered in Swiss viticulture, particularly in the alpine vineyards of the Valais region. Exhibiting a refined aromatic profile, Heida is celebrated for its expressive notes of alpine herbs, citrus zest, ripe orchard fruits such as pear and apple, and subtle floral undertones. On the palate, the wines deliver remarkable freshness, marked by vibrant acidity, a pronounced mineral character, and a lingering finish that often unveils hints of dried fruits and nuts as the wine matures.
Primarily cultivated in the upper Rhône Valley—especially in Visperterminen, one of Europe’s highest vineyards—Heida thrives in the region's unique terroir, yielding wines of notable intensity and structure. Stylistically, Heida is vinified both as a crisp, dry white and as a luscious late-harvest selection, with excellent potential for ageing due to its robust acidity.
Heida pairs exceptionally well with traditional Swiss cuisine, such as raclette and fondue, but also complements smoked fish, poultry in creamy sauces, shellfish, and hard alpine cheeses. Its distinctive minerality and freshness make it a versatile companion to aromatic or lightly spiced dishes, elevating the dining experience with finesse.
