Prosecco, primarily crafted from the Glera grape, is renowned for its vibrant and approachable character. Typically, it delivers enticing aromas of green apple, pear, white peach, and acacia blossom, often accompanied by subtle hints of citrus and almond. On the palate, Prosecco is light-bodied, crisp, and refreshing, balanced by lively acidity and a gentle, creamy mousse. This effervescence enhances flavours of orchard fruits, making the wine both inviting and moreish.
The principal production area for Prosecco is situated in north-eastern Italy, predominantly in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions. Within Veneto, the superior DOCG zones of Conegliano Valdobbiadene and Asolo are especially prized for their quality and complexity.
Prosecco is most commonly enjoyed in its sparkling (Spumante) or semi-sparkling (Frizzante) forms, ranging from Brut to Extra Dry styles. While predominantly vinified as a youthful, fresh wine, there are also vintage and single-vineyard expressions that demonstrate enhanced depth and finesse.
Prosecco pairs excellently with light appetisers, fresh seafood, sushi, salads, and mild cheeses. Its crispness also complements salty treats such as prosciutto or olives, offering a delightful contrast that underscores the grape’s lively charm and versatility.
