Babeasca Neagra is an ancient Romanian red grape variety, cultivated predominantly in the wine regions of Moldova and the south-east of Romania, particularly in the Moldovan region and Dobrogea. Known for producing lighter-bodied red wines, Babeasca Neagra offers an expressive aromatic profile highlighting fresh red fruits such as sour cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. Subtle notes of violet, pepper, and sometimes earthy undertones enrich the nose, while the palate is typically fresh and vibrant, marked by moderate tannins, lively acidity, and a pleasantly fruity finish.
Most commonly vinified as a varietal wine, Babeasca Neagra is also occasionally used in blends to contribute freshness and aromatic liveliness.
