Jacquère is a classic white grape variety predominantly cultivated in the Savoie region of the French Alps. Renowned for its delicate and refreshing character, Jacquère produces wines with a pale straw hue and lively acidity. The aromatic profile is marked by crisp notes of green apple, citrus zest, white flowers, and a subtle mineral backbone reminiscent of mountain streams and limestone soils. On the palate, Jacquère wines are light-bodied yet vibrant, offering quenching acidity and flavours of pear, green plum, and sometimes a faint saline touch, contributing to their invigorating, clean finish.
The principal vineyards are located in the Savoie appellation, particularly in crus such as Apremont and Abymes, where the alpine climate and varied terroir allow Jacquère to express remarkable freshness and purity. Typical wine styles made from Jacquère include still dry whites, characterised by their youthful vibrancy and approachability, often best enjoyed within a few years of vintage.
Jacquère wines are exceptionally food-friendly. They pair beautifully with fresh-water fish, shellfish, light poultry dishes, alpine cheeses such as Raclette and Tomme de Savoie, as well as simple vegetable preparations. Their bright acidity cuts through creamy textures, making them a versatile choice for a wide range of pairings.
