White Grapes

Verduzzo is an indigenous Italian grape variety, highly regarded for its versatility and character, particularly in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of north-eastern Italy. This grape typically produces wines with a golden straw hue, offering an enticing aromatic profile with notes of ripe orchard fruits such as pear and yellow apple, accentuated by hints of honey, acacia blossom, dried apricot, and occasional almond nuances. On the palate, Verduzzo exhibits medium to full body, balanced freshness, and an appealing textural presence. Depending on the winemaking style, it can yield both dry and sweet wines; the latter, often late-harvest or passito styles, are celebrated for their rich, layered sweetness counterbalanced by a vibrant acidity.

Verduzzo is most notably associated with Friuli Grave and Colli Orientali del Friuli, where it achieves its highest expression and complexity. The grape’s sweet expressions, such as Verduzzo Friulano or Ramandolo DOCG, are internationally recognised. For food pairing, dry Verduzzo works elegantly with poultry, risotto, or fresh cheeses, while sweet versions complement blue cheeses, almond-based desserts, or classic Italian pastries, offering a sophisticated conclusion to any meal.
