Prié Blanc is an ancient white grape variety indigenous to the Aosta Valley in northwestern Italy. This grape flourishes at some of the highest vineyard elevations in Europe, offering wines with remarkable freshness and character. On the nose, Prié Blanc shows invigorating aromatics of white blossom, green apple, citrus zest, and delicate herbal notes, occasionally complemented by a subtle mineral nuance reflecting its alpine terroir. The palate is typically lively and crisp, marked by vibrant acidity, flavours of lemon, pear, and a hint of white peach, leading to a clean, refreshing finish.
The principal region for Prié Blanc cultivation is Valle d’Aosta, particularly around the communes of Morgex and La Salle, where it is featured in DOC Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle. Wines are often vinified as varietal still whites, showcasing pure fruit and high acidity, or as sparkling (spumante) styles that emphasise finesse and freshness.
Prié Blanc pairs exceptionally with regional alpine dishes, such as fonduta valdostana (cheese fondue), raclette, or freshwater fish. It also complements oysters, shellfish, and delicately flavoured white meats, making it ideal for light appetisers and subtly seasoned mains. Serve well-chilled to best appreciate its vibrant mountain character.
