Vermentinu, internationally recognised as Vermentino, is a white grape variety predominately cultivated in the Mediterranean, with Corsica standing as a principal region of production. In the glass, Vermentinu wines reveal a vivid pale straw colour and an enticing aromatic profile, featuring notes of citrus blossom, fresh pear, green apple, and a distinctive herbal nuance reminiscent of wild Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the wines are typically crisp, medium-bodied, and elegantly textured, exhibiting refreshing acidity alongside flavours of grapefruit, lime, almond, and subtle saline undertones.
Vermentinu thrives in the sunlit, coastal vineyards of Corsica, Liguria, Sardinia, and select southern French enclaves. Styles range from lively, unoaked expressions that emphasise purity and aromatic lift, to more complex, lees-aged or partially oaked versions, which offer increased richness and longevity.
These wines are remarkably versatile at the table. Their freshness and subtle savoury notes pair beautifully with local seafood dishes—grilled sea bass, shellfish, or oysters. Vermentinu also complements Mediterranean vegetable preparations, herbed poultry, and soft cheeses, making it a refined choice for a range of gastronomic experiences. Serve well chilled to fully appreciate its vibrant, aromatic character.
