Nascetta is a rare and distinctive white grape variety native to the Langhe region in Piedmont, northern Italy. Its aromatic profile is remarkably complex, often displaying enticing notes of citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, alongside hints of white peach, pear, and green apple. Subtle floral nuances, particularly acacia and wildflowers, are complemented by layers of sage, rosemary, and a characteristic minerality. On the palate, Nascetta typically offers a vibrant acidity balanced with a medium body, providing a refreshing yet textured mouthfeel. Delicate saline and herbal undertones linger on the finish, contributing to its unique personality.
Today, Nascetta is predominantly cultivated in the commune of Novello and the surrounding areas within the Langhe hills. Producers craft both unoaked and lightly oaked styles, which can range from youthful and crisp to more structured, age-worthy examples. Some winemakers also experiment with extended lees contact or partial malolactic fermentation, adding further depth and richness.
Nascetta pairs superbly with seafood dishes—especially shellfish—fresh goat’s cheese, spring vegetable risottos, and delicately flavoured poultry. Its aromatic intensity and minerality also make it an excellent companion for traditional Piedmontese antipasti and herb-infused pasta dishes.
