Erbaluce is a distinguished white grape variety predominantly cultivated in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy, with its finest expressions centred around the Canavese and Caluso areas. Renowned for its lively acidity and finesse, Erbaluce wines typically offer a compelling aromatic profile characterised by delicate notes of green apple, pear, white peach and citrus, often complemented by nuances of wildflowers, fresh herbs and a subtle mineral undertone. On the palate, these wines display crisp, refreshing acidity, a light to medium body, and a clean, persistent finish, sometimes revealing hints of almond or saline minerality.
Erbaluce is vinified in a variety of styles, including dry still wines (most notably Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG), sparkling versions, and exquisite passito dessert wines made from dried grapes, which amplify its aromatic complexity and richness. With their vibrant acidity and subtle aromatics, dry Erbaluce wines pair particularly well with a wide array of dishes such as delicate seafood, light risottos, asparagus, grilled vegetables, and fresh goat’s cheeses. The sweeter passito styles can be exquisitely matched with fruit tarts, almond-based pastries, or blue cheeses, offering a harmonious counterbalance to both sweet and savoury flavours.
