Moscato Bianco, known for its enchanting aromatic profile, is a distinguished white grape variety originating from Italy. Characterised by pronounced notes of fresh grapes, orange blossom, honeysuckle, and ripe peaches, it often develops subtle undertones of citrus peel, musk, and delicate spices. On the palate, Moscato Bianco wines are celebrated for their vibrant freshness, moderate alcohol levels, and a signature gentle sweetness that is elegantly balanced by refreshing acidity.
This grape is most notably associated with the Piedmont region in north-western Italy, particularly for the world-renowned Moscato d’Asti and Asti Spumante. Smaller plantings can be found in other Italian regions and parts of southern France. Moscato Bianco typically produces lightly sparkling (frizzante) or fully sparkling (spumante) wines, though still and dessert iterations are also crafted. These wines are usually best enjoyed young, capturing the grape’s aromatic intensity and lively character.
Ideal pairings include fruit-based desserts, such as tarts or panna cotta, as well as lighter pastries and creamy blue cheeses. Moscato Bianco also complements spicy Asian dishes, where its sweetness can offset heat, making it a versatile choice for both classic and contemporary cuisine.
