On the palate, these wines are typically medium- to full-bodied, with soft, velvety tannins and refreshing acidity, offering flavours that range from blackberries and dark cherry to earthy undertones and cocoa.
Originally from Bordeaux, Carménère now finds its most prominent expression in Chile, particularly in the Central Valley regions like Maipo, Colchagua, and Cachapoal. The grape thrives in these warmer climates, developing its characteristic depth and complexity.
Carménère wines are most often crafted as single varietals, but they are also found in blends, lending their vibrant colour and peppery nuances. Styles vary from youthful, fruit-driven examples to more structured, oak-aged versions that display additional layers of complexity.
