Red Grape Variety

Magarach Black is a distinctive red grape variety originating from the Crimean region, but also found in select vineyards across Ukraine and Russia. It thrives particularly well in the warm, sun-drenched climates surrounding the Black Sea. This grape is notable for its deep colour and robust structure, offering a compelling aromatic profile where notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum, and subtle hints of dried herbs dominate. On the palate, Magarach Black wines are typically medium- to full-bodied with firm tannins and a backbone of bright acidity, giving the wine excellent ageing potential. Flavours of ripe dark fruits intertwine with nuances of spice, cocoa, and a touch of earthiness, creating a complex and enduring finish.

The varietal is mostly vinified into dry red wines, though off-dry and dessert styles are also produced, showcasing the grape’s versatility. Magarach Black pairs exceptionally well with richly flavoured dishes such as slow-braised beef, lamb shanks, or venison, as well as mature hard cheeses. Its vibrant acidity and depth of flavour also complement spicy Mediterranean cuisine and savoury mushroom dishes, making it a fine choice for both robust and complex meals.
