Red Grape Variety

Tavriiskii is a relatively rare grape variety that has found prominence in select viticultural regions, particularly within southern Ukraine and parts of the Black Sea basin. Characterised by a vibrant aromatic profile, Tavriiskii wines display notes of ripe blackberries, plums, and subtle nuances of spice and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wines are well-structured and medium-bodied, often revealing smooth tannins and a lingering, balanced finish with hints of dried fruit and gentle smokiness.

This grape is typically produced as a single-varietal red wine but is also seen in blends, contributing depth and aromatic complexity. The wines are known for their approachability in youth, yet the finest expressions exhibit potential for moderate cellaring, allowing tertiary flavours to develop.

Tavriiskii thrives in the warm, sun-drenched terroirs along the northern Black Sea coast, where maritime influences foster slow, even ripening. The typical style is dry red wine, though some producers may experiment with semi-sweet or oak-aged versions.

Recommended food pairings include roasted lamb, venison, aubergine moussaka, or matured hard cheeses, where the wine’s fruit profile and supple tannins harmonise beautifully with richer, savoury dishes.
