White Grapes

Rizling vlašský, known internationally as Welschriesling, offers a distinctive aromatic and palate profile, making it a key player in Central and Eastern European wine regions. The grape typically produces wines with vibrant acidity and a light to medium body. Aromas of green apple, pear, citrus fruits, and white flowers are complemented by subtle herbal and almond notes. On the palate, wines range from fresh and crisp, with flavours of lemon zest and orchard fruits, to more complex expressions in late-harvest or botrytised styles, where honeyed, nutty, and candied fruit characteristics prevail.

Principal growing areas include Austria (mainly in the regions of Styria and Burgenland), Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia. These regions craft a variety of styles, from dry and youthful wines designed for early consumption, through to mineral-driven expressions with notable ageing potential, and lusciously sweet dessert wines from selected late-harvest or nobly rotten grapes.

Rizling vlašský pairs excellently with light appetisers, seafood, fresh salads, and soft cheeses. Its acidity also balances well with mildly spicy Asian cuisine and fried dishes, while sweeter versions complement fruit-based desserts or blue-veined cheeses, offering a versatile option for wine and food pairing.
